Getting Around
Norfolk is extremely well connected. Situated only 100 miles from London, it is also the nearest UK location to northern mainland Europe - only 75 miles from the port of IJmuiden in Holland.
Some parts of Britain's transport system are "at breaking point". Despite doubling its motorway network during the past 30 years, the UK has Europe's busiest roads, according to a report by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
However, this is not a problem we recognise in Norfolk. Figures produced by the Department for Transport (DfT) show that the East of England enjoys higher than average vehicle speeds on Trunk Roads and below average for time lost due to congestion, compared to rest of England. Surveys have shown that the average journey to work time in Norfolk is only 19 minutes.
By Air
Norwich International Airport offers a wide choice of business and leisure travel, with UK destinations that include Manchester, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
Flights also link to Europe including Amsterdam, an important hub for worldwide routes.
By Road
Norfolk's is fully integrated with the UK's Trunk Road network, the A11/M11 to Cambridge and London is virtually fully dualled, excellent road links to the Midlands via the A14, and via the A47 to the North (A1).
Ipswich and the Haven Gateway ports (Harwich and Felixtowe) are little over an hour away, as are Stansted and Luton airports. Daily services to all major cities are operated by National Express services.
By Rail
National Express provides hourly services from Norwich to London Liverpool Street with a journey time of 1 hour 50 minutes. In addition, there are cross county services from Norwich to Peterborough, Birmingham, Cambridge, Manchester and Liverpool. There are also services between Kings Lynn and London via Cambridge.
By Sea
Norfolk is served by three sea ports, Great Yarmouth to the East and King's Lynn to the West. The major international ports of Harwich and Felixstowe are accessible by road and rail. From these ports any world-wide destination can be reached.
Eastport, Great Yarmouth's new, deep water outer harbour, is in the final stages of development . It will play an important part in the future development of Norfolk.
Norfolk is an easy county to get around. Norwich is directly linked by a radial network of roads to virtually all of the 20 main towns in the county. Many of them are also served by rail either by the 2 main lines or the 3 branch lines. And with 6 purpose built park and ride sites the popularity of Norwich need not be constrained by a lack of parking.
